A Local Dad's Guide to Free Indoor Playgrounds in Indianapolis

Rainy day? As a local Indy real estate agent, I spend a ton of time driving through our amazing neighborhoods. But as a dad to three kids (a busy little girl and a pair of energetic twin boys), I also know exactly how fast cabin fever sets in when the Indiana weather traps us inside. Let me tell you, keeping three kids entertained without blowing the family budget is an extreme sport!

When you’re buying a home, you’re buying into a community. Knowing where to take your kids to burn off energy on a rainy April weekend or a freezing February afternoon is just as important as checking out the local school district. Luckily, the Indy metro area is packed with hidden gems that won’t cost you a dime.

Here is my ultimate local dad’s guide to 9 completely free indoor playgrounds around central Indiana!

1. The Park at Traders Point Church (Whitestown)

Located on the northwest side, this massive indoor play space is legendary among Indy parents. Big kids will love the multi-level structure with a mini zip-line, while parents will appreciate the separate toddler zone (an absolute lifesaver when my twins were learning to walk).

  • Local Tip: You must bring socks for the kids and a government ID for yourself. There is plenty of seating and free Wi-Fi!

2. The Treehouse at Plainfield Christian Church (Plainfield)

If you’re exploring homes in Hendricks County, you have to check this out. It features a huge, multi-level tree-themed climbing structure flooded with natural light. My daughter absolutely loves the huge slide here!

  • Local Tip: Unlike most indoor playgrounds, kids actually keep their shoes on here!

3. Fishers Community Center Indoor Playground (Fishers)

Inside the brand-new Fishers Community Center is a 5,300-square-foot indoor play space. It has a super tall structure with bridges and slides for kids to burn off that endless energy.

  • Local Tip: You just need to sign up for a free community pass to enter. Best of all, you can sip coffee from the on-site Sahm’s Community Café while you watch them play!

4. Cornerstone Lutheran Church (Indianapolis & Fishers)

With locations in both downtown Indy and Fishers, Cornerstone is a fantastic resource. The Fishers location boasts vibrant climbing structures with age-appropriate obstacles, while the Indy location opens up its large gymnasium filled with pop-up tunnels, foam blocks, and ride-on toys.

5. The Center at Northview Christian Church (Danville)

This gorgeous facility is an absolute game-changer. Not only does it feature a modern climbing structure with netting and slides, but there is also a giant indoor artificial turf field and a 3-lane walking track!

  • Local Tip: Bring a soccer ball! Letting my boys run wild on the turf is a guaranteed way to ensure they sleep through the night. Plus, there’s an on-site coffee shop.

6. The Well Community Center (Brownsburg)

Another great spot on the west side, this play space is made entirely of repurposed materials! It features a multi-level climbing structure, slides, and ride-on toys. There are plenty of tables available if you want to pack a lunch for the family.

7. Christ Community Church Play Area (Carmel)

Perfect for families looking on the north side, this Carmel play area is specifically designed for kids 10 and under. It features a big kid climbing structure, a soft toddler area with play mats, and interactive animal sensory boards on the walls.

8. Playzone at AFC (Anderson)

Making the quick drive to Anderson First Church of the Nazarene is well worth it. Their Playzone is a massive five-story jungle gym that is 40 feet long! It has a bouldering rock wall, tunnels, a preschool zone, and the Luna Coffee Bar for parents.

9. The Commons (Columbus)

If you’re up for a bit of a road trip down south, downtown Columbus is home to The Commons. The centerpiece is an awe-inspiring 35-foot-tall “Luckey Climber” that lets kids climb from floor to ceiling. It has separate zones ranging from a 6-month-old infant area all the way up to a space for 12-year-olds.

Finding the Perfect Home (and Playroom) in Indy

Knowing where to take the kids when it’s pouring rain is just one small piece of the puzzle when you settle into a new city. If you’re thinking about making a move and want a home with the perfect layout, maybe one with a big basement, a fenced-in yard, or a dedicated playroom, I’d love to help!
